Maywood Park growth and neighborhoods

Description

The city of Maywood Park is in northern Multnomah County, in an area that was originally home to the Clackamas, Multnomah and other indigenous peoples. When the first houses were built, it was a suburban neighborhood and was not incorporated. Residents voted to incorporate as a city in 1967, in an effort to prevent the Interstate 205 freeway from being built through the middle of their community -- but ultimately, Maywood Park’s efforts to halt construction of the freeway were unsuccessful.
