Description
Map of Dekum Court, published around 1943, from a collection of maps of temporary housing projects administered by Housing Authority of Portland during the Second World War. The map shows street names, house and unit numbers, an administration building, a pumping plant and a maintenance shed. Most other temporary wartime housing projects in the Portland area were demolished after the war, but Dekum Court was built to be permanent. It was designed to provide housing for non-commissioned officers who were stationed at the Portland Air Base, and their families. The original Dekum Court continued to be used as city-run public housing through the early 1970s, when the city replaced it with a new public housing development that is also named Dekum Court.
