Grand Floral Parade
Junior Rose Festival Parade. Largest children’s parade in tpe United States, involving some 10,000 youngsters —that’s the Junior Rose Festival Parade, held annually on Portland’s east side. FRIDAY, JUNE 7 — 1:30 p.m.
The year 1968 will see Portland’s 60th Grand Floral Parade, dating from 1907, with only two years missed. In contrast to early-day parades, which consisted mostly of cars and trucks covered with flowers, ferns and greenery, the 1968 parade will feature 50 magnificent floats completely decorated with natural flowers. The parade will start at the Memorial Coliseum, where there are theater-type seats available for
10,000 spectators, and will then travel Portland streets and bridges for a total of five miles. Floats will be gathered in an accessible location for two days’ viewing after the parade. The creative ideas and careful handiwork of many thousand people go into the production of the Grand Floral Parade, one of the nation’s finest.
