WELCOME TO ROSARI
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
A
I wish that every resident of Portland and every Rose Festival visitor could have had the privilege of serving on this year’s Rose Festival board. If you could have seen the plans for this gigantic festival take shape-if you could have seen the patient effort and creative thinking that went into this event - you would have some conception of the truly fantastic scope of this year’s Rose Festival.
A great many innovations will greet those who attend one or more Festival events this year. It is
not possible to list them in this brief space. But everything has been done with one goal in mind -to make the Rose Festival as attractive and interesting as possible, and to make it even more representative of the great and growing City of Portland.
I therefore bid you welcome to the Kingdom of Rosaria, and trust that your visit will be pleasant, exciting and fruitful.

The Golden Rose Ski Tournament, last major ski meet held in the United States each year, provides a fitting climax to the Festival program. Internationally famous ski stars assemble on the slopes of Mt. Hood to provide mile-a-minute downhill race thrills for the excited gallery of summer ski race spectators. A light wool sweater usually provides sufficient warmth — you’ll need boots or galoshes to keep feet dry and dark glasses to cut snow glare. Plan a Sunday, June 14 trip to Mt. Hood for the action-packed Golden Rose Ski Tournament,

ROSE FESTIVAL and OREGON’S
IXOSE FESTIVAL visitors will enjoy an unusual bonus in 1959, as they take part in lavish festivities planned for the celebration of Oregon's 100th birthday as a state.
The Rose Festival will be the official "Kickoff” for these activities. Not only at the Oregon Centennial grounds in Portland, but also at community celebrations throughout the state, there will be parades, parties, rodeos, stage shows, pageants, sporting events and hilarity all summer long.
Watch Oregon celebrate its 100th birthday — and start the celebration at the Portland Rose Festival!
