Description

Concert program for a vocal performance by Marian Anderson, African American contralto. Kosti Vehanen accompanied her on the piano. The program included works by Handel, Scarlatti, Bizet, Schubert and Verdi and closed with four Negro spirituals. Marian Anderson was the first to record Negro spirituals with a major American record label in 1923, and the first black person to perform at the Metropolitan Opera in New York in 1955.
