DENIS Presents Her Nine Denishawn Concert Dancers "The Most Beautiful Classic Dancing Attraction Before the Public" with ELLIS BHODES and PAULINE LAAVRENCE Dramatic Tenor Pianist AT AUDITORIUM, FEBRUABY 6th, AT 8:30 P. M. RUTH ST. DENIS CONCERT DANCERS The interpreting and visualizing of music by bodily movement is one of the vital phases of this present-day renaissance of the dance. This particular group of nine dancers, produced at Denishawn, specializes in the analytic study of music in its relation to dance. Part I of the program begins with Bach, where each part of the invention and each voice of the fugue is danced by a separate group of dancers, the whole blending as harmoniously as the music does in sound. The correlative progression in movement with the program is carried on from fundamental rhythmic movements of geometric design in the first part to individualization of movement and subtlety of expression in the second part. The structural principles of the dance developed and set forth in the early part of the program are given art form and elaborated toward the end of the program. Song and movement are the only two pure personal arts. Voice was the first primitive accompaniment to dance. Rhythm, bodily movement and voice constitute the ground work for all personal art. For that reason we are placing the voice on the same program with dance visualization and later propose to show the development of the intimate relationship between voice and dance, as suggested in the number by Mr. Rhodes and Miss Niles. Their program of music visualization is the result of over three years of training by Miss St. Denis and Mr. Shawn. Management for Western IT. S. and Canada WESTERN MUSICAL BUBEAU, INC. LAURENCE A. LAMBERT, Genl. Mgr. Eilers Music Bldg., 2 87 Washington St. WESTERN MUSICAL BUREAU ANNOUNCES Coming! At Heilig Theatre Mar. 17-18-19-20 FORTUNE GALLO, IMPRESSARIO OF THE SAN CARLO GRAND OPERA CO. Presents Gallo English Opera Company In an Elaborate Revival of "Gilbert and Sullivan" and Other Classic Light Operas CHIMES OF MIKADO PIRATES OF NORMANDY PINAFORE GEISHA With Jefferson De Angelis and Hana Shimozumi (Japanese Prima Donna) and Other Noted Stars FORTUNE GALLO, President BRADFORD MILLS, Genl. Mgr. In presenting the Gallo English Opera Company,in a repertoire of revivals of the old favorite light operas Messrs. Gallo and Mills are doing so in the belief that these operas deserve a permanent place in operatic literature quite as important as that of Grand Opera. Replete with beautiful melodies, picturesque settings and clean cut humor, the operas of the Gilbert and Sullivan school present a striking contrast to the musical comedies and "girl shows" of the present day regime. It is the purpose of the management to give these operas with painstaking fidelity to traditional detail. No money has been spared to produce them with the same elaborate vestment of scenery and costumes which characterized their original production, and with a company chosen for the individual ability to portray the roles for which they have been cast. The company is a SINGING organization. A large chorus of fresh young voices selected from the studios of New York, an augmented orchestra under one of the best known conductors in the country, and a large cast of distinguished principals, the Gallo English Opera Company inaugurates a new era of light opera in America; a return to the delightful operas of days gone by, when good singing as well as acting constituted the standard by which performances were judged.
