Description
This four-plex apartment was occupied by the families of Clarence Mcfarland, Roosevelt Tellis, & Joe Blackman before it was demolished by the City of Portland to construct Veterans Memorial Coliseum. When asked about having to relocate by an Oregonian reporter Mrs. Mcfarland responded "until now I had no idea there were so many places negroes can't live" in reference to discriminatory housing practices that were widespread at the time (Oregonian, April 7, 1957 ).
