Vancouver Avenue First Baptist Church is a revered institution that has consistently served as a hub of political, civic, and spiritual life in Portland’s African-American community since its inception. This photo of Reverend O.B. Williams and Sarah Ann Bates was taken at during a Mother’s Day celebration in 1962.
