SYNOPSIS. In her boudoir the Marquise, a bride of a month, is dressing for a ball at Versailles. The Marquis enraptured by his wife's beauty lingers around the room forgetting to dress; she lovingly scolds him and sends him to his room. In removing the Marquis' overcoat from one chair to another, a letter falls to the floor, the Marquise picks it up, reads it and is overcome by grief on learning of her husband's unfaithfulness. She goes towards husband's room to reproach him, the sight of Grandma's miniature on the table recalls her to her senses. "What would Grandma have said in a case like this?" "Be diplomatic and sweet, don't scold." She follows Grandma's advice. It turns out that the coat is not the Marquis', a mistake having been made at the club that afternoon. "Think what a little idiot I could have made of myself," thinks the Marquise.
