ON MORRISON at SIXTH PORTLAND AUTO NEWS Owner—Garage—All Round CONCERNING THE ELECTRIC AUTOMOBILE. That the Electric is fast coming to the front is shown by the number of exhibits at the New York and Chicago shows this year, where eighteen different makes of Electrics have been and will be shown. This is a remarkable showing, considering the fact that eight of the exhibitors are new makes recently placed on the market. The people of Portland are beginning to realize that the Electric car is not an expensive tog, but a carriage that will answer their case., nine times out of ten. The Electric will do everything a gas car will do, except touring, and it is found that the people who have purchased a gas car for touring, go on a tour three or four times during the summer season and the balance of the time are using their heavy gas car for shopping, calling, etc., where an electric could be used at one-third of the cost. It is coming to the fact that there will be two cars in each family, the touring car for long rides in the country and the Electric for the city work and for the lady. Portland is a little slow in adopting this style of car, and there is no reason why this should be so, as Portland has ideal streets, the grades are gradual and nothing compared with Seattle, where there are many Electrics in use. However. Portland, like all other large cities, will adopt the Electric, and it will be a pleasing sight to see these beautiful cars moving swiftly and silently through our Portland streets. AUTO LUGGAGE. There are many occasions when luggage is a necessity in a car. not only when touring or when on a short pleasure spin m the country for the day. but on countless other occasions. Realizing such a condition the Taylor Trunk Company across from the Heilig Theatre are specializing to the auto trade with many clever designs in trunks, cases, etc. Auto luggage must be made with an eye to using as little space in the car as possible and yet take care of quantity when necessary. The Taylor Trunk Company make every piece to order to suit the individual need. DEPARTMENT STORES ADOPT ELECTRICS One of the largest department stores in the Middle West, Crowlev. Milner & Company, Detroit, Mich., and Toledo, O., have just placed an order with the Anderson Electric Car Company of the former city for five electric delivery wagons. Of these, there are to be of 1,000 pounds carrying capacity and special delivery bodies. The other two will have furniture hodies with a clear carrying space 13 feet long by six wide. They will be of the 3,000-pound size. This order was placed, it is said, after a very careful and thorough investigation of the capabilities and possible service from the various makes and tyoes of commercial vehicle. The decision to adopt the Detroit Electric was made after it had demonstrated its ability on long trying runs to Grosse Point, Wayne and other suburbs varying from 12 to is miles distant from the store, which is in the heart of the city.—From January, 1912, Commercial Vehicle. It tells a thoroughly vivid and interesting story, picturing the sharp contrast of conservative English social atmosphere with the rugged, virile, sturdy lfe of the American frontier; and while it has all the dramatic power and strong dramatic situation of the melodrama, the story is told so artistically and with such truth to nature that it is at once raised far above the cheap clap-trap methods of the simple melodrama into the realm of the real dramatic classic. More than this, the real secret of its continued success and its hold on popular favor lies in the deep, beautiful heart interest that permeates the play. The noble, self-sacrificing love of Lady Diana, the high-bred, delicate English gentlewoman, and the beautiful, simple mother-love and wife-love of the poor Indian wife, Naturich, that shows that the heart of woman, be she the daughter of an hundred Earls or the simple child of savage nature, is ever and always the same, the world over, the holiest thing on earth from Bethlehem till now.
