1904, by and between the LEA'IS AND CLARK CENTENNIAL AND AMERICAN PACIFIC EXPOSITION AND ORIENTAL FAIR, a corporation organized and existing under the laws of the State of Oregon, hereinafter designated the "EXPOSITION", party of the first part,

WITNESSETH :
That for and in consideration of the mutual covenants hereinafter contained, it is hereby mutually agreed between the parties hereto and on behalf of their respective heirs, executors, administrators, successors and aasigns, as follows,
FIRS? : The Exposition agrees to and does hereby appoint the said Commissioner as Commercial Commissioner for .....___....._____......_________....._______.......______
(hereinafter referred to as said Country), at the Foreign Building of the Lewis and Clark Centennial Exposition, to be held in the City of Portland, State of Ojegon, A. D. U05, and as such Commissioner shall be known as one of the Foreign Commissioners of the Division of Exhibits of said Exposition.
SECOND: The said Commissioner hereoy accents the foregoing appointment and agrees hat he will use every proper and reasonable effort to secure first class and attractive bona fide individual exhibits from said Country, acceptable tc the said Exposition, and will install, decorate and maintain each and every exhibit from said Country accepted by the said Exposition, to the "ntire satisfaction of the Director o: Exhibits of said Exposition, and subject to all of the rules and regulations, either general or special, of the said Exposition, now or hereafter adopted for the governing of the installation, maintenance and removal of exhibits; and further, the said Commissioner specifically agrees that at least fifteen bona fide individual exhibits from said Country wtl. be installed and maintained at said Centennial Exposition, in accordance with the provisions of this agreement and the requirements of said Exposition; but the area and location of the exhibit space allotted and assigned for the purpose of the exhibits from ?aid Country, shall be determined by the said Director of Exhibits.
THIRD : The said Commissioner further agrees that before any exhibitor from ;aid Country shall be entitled to any part of the space which may be allotted and •assigned to said Commissioner, or any of the privileges of an exhibitor, the said exhibitor shall subscribe to an application for exhibit space in the said Foreign Building, -raid application will be furnished by the Exposition and may bind the laid exhibitors and each of them to all or any of the requirements and conditions of tnip agreement and to the rules and regulations of the Exposition, either general', or special, governing the installation, maintenance and removal of exhibits, and all other operations of every kind and character which may be carried on within and .rom the said space; and the said application, when so subscribed, shall be filed with the said Director of Exhibits, and further, the said Commissioner shall,
not later than the ______ day of ................, 1905, submit to and file with the said
Director of Exiibits, detailed plans or drawings to a scale of one-fourth inch (1/4") to one foot (l1), showing the plan and distribution of the objects to be exhibited on the space allotted and assigned for the exhibits of said Country, and also shoving each and every individual exhibit to oe installed thereon with the facades, arches and decorations complete; and said plans or drawings shall in all things be subject to the approval of the said Director of Exhibits. FOURTH: The s id Commissioner snail pay to tM said Exposition the sum of One Dollar ($1.00) in lawful money o" the Uni ei States of Aaerica for each ani every square foot of exhibit space allotted and assigned to exhibitors from said Country with selling privileges by the said Director tf Exhibits on The application of the saic Commissioner Payments for said space shall be made as fellows: One-fourth of the value thereof on the execution of th s contract ; one-fourth of the value thereof on the first day of January, 1905; one-fourth of the value thereof cn The first day of March, 1905, ana the remaining one-fourth of the value thereor on or before the first day of May, 1905; it being understood 'hat the said space or any part thereof shall not be occupied until a permit authorizing the same shall be issued in writing by the said Director of ExniDits and no p-rmit will be issued by the said Director until the foregoing payments are fully made. The tern; "exhibit space" as used herein shall be uncerstocc to mean the area allotted and assigned by the Director of Exhibits for the exhibits of said Country exclusive of the areas actually occupied by aisles and walls.
It is understood that the said Commissioner may charge the exhibitors from said Country, whose exhibits have been approved as herein provided, such price per square foot of said space as may oe nsceasary to cover the cost of installing and maintaining the collective exhibits of said Country ; but atter a portion of said space has once been allotted to an exhibitor from said Country then no further transfer shall be made of the said space by the said Commissioner, ani any space or spaces not fully occupied and used for the purposes herein provided for. and any space or spaces which may ravert to tee said Exposition through misuse or for any other cause may be reassigned by the said Director of Exhibits for such purposes as the said Director may deem expedient, and all payments mace on such space or spaces shall be forfeited to the Exposition.
FIFTH: It is mutually understood and agreed by and between the parties hereto that the respective exhibitors from said Country who have fully complied with requirements of the agreement and with the rules and regulations of the Ex position governing exhibits, shall, by virtue of this agreement, have the priv-ilege of selling for immediate delivery such articles as are in the opinion of the said Director of Exhibits and the Director of Concessions and Admissions ox-said Exposition, strictly the products of said Country; but each and every artic> sold in each and every exhibit space shall be first approved for sale by the Ex position or its representative; and the said Commissioner specifically agrees that he will not exhibit, display or sell nor permit the exhibit, display, or sal by any exhibitor from said Country of any article or thing not manufactured in said Country or not shown on the approved plans or drawings and approved lists oi itemized exhibits and separate formsG-.ereinabove referred to; and th^-w-lolation of this provision shall give to the Exposition the power and authority to sumaar ily seize any such article or thing and remove the same, without legal process, from the said Foreign Building and all such articles or things so seized shall become the absolute property of the Exposition,
SIXTH: It i3 understood by the said Commissioner that hit right, and the right of each and every exhibitor from oaid Country to occupy aid or any of the space or spaces which may be allotted and assigned for the exhibit purposes of said Conntry under this agreement, shall continue enly so long as each and all of
tKe undertakings, provisions, agreements, stipulations and conditions herein contained on the part of the said Commissioner and the said exhibitors from said Country are faithfully and promptly performed, and in case of default in the prompt and faithful performance of any of said undertakings, provisions, agreements, stipulations and conditions or ail of them, the Exposition may immediately or at any time thereafter close up the space or spaces or any structure erected thereon, and the said Commissioner, nor any exhibitor of said Country whose space or structure may be so closed shall have any further rights therein; and it is further agreed that the Exposition, its officers or agents, or the Exposition police, under whatever name designated, or its servants or employees acting under the authority of said officers or agents, shall at all times have the right to enter upon the space or spaces which may be allotted and assigned as hereinabove provided, or into any structure or structures erected thereon for the purposes of inspection or preservation of order, or for the purpose of carrying out any of the orders of the Director of Exhibits, or Director of Concessions and Admissions, or of any other officer of the Exposition.
SEVENTH: The term Director of Exhibits, or other Director, as used in this agreement shall be understood to mean the person who at the time is acting as such Director for the Exposition.
Ill WITNESS WHEREOF, the party of the first part has caused this agreement to be duly signed by its officers and agents, hereunto duly authorized, and the party of the second part has hereunto set his hand and seal the day and year hereinabove written, in triplicate,
