Fun Facts:
- Hopworks BikeBar, opened in 2011, contains stationary bikes that generate electricity for the building when pedaled.
- Need to repair your bike, but hankering for a glass of beer? HUB sells bicycle supplies and even provides tire patches for free.
- Oregon’s first eco-brewery stemmed from the long-time dreams of founder and Brewmaster Christian Ettinger, whose foray into craft brewing began in his parents’ kitchen. Hopworks places an emphasis on the use of local, organic hops and a neutral cradle-to-gate carbon footprint.
In 2015, HUB received recognition for their commitment to sustainable practices, earning B Corporation certification. Administered by B Lab, the designation lauds businesses working toward solving environmental and social issues, while ensuring a commitment from the company to continue considering its greater environmental impact. A few months later, HUB became the first craft brewery in the world to receive Salmon-Safe certification. Salmon-Safe applauded HUB’s retention pond, low-flow faucets, and clean-in-place skid and centrifuge, which utilizes five times less the amount of water than industry averages.
HUB’s 20-barrel brewery produces 16,000 barrels per year for distribution across the Northwest. With a focus on family in both business operations and their two brewpubs, HUB prides itself on remaining actively involved with its neighborhood community through events like the annual Handmade Bike & Beer Festival. The brewery employs more than 130 people throughout the Northwest.
