\DISTRICT NO. ONE, MULTNOMAH COUNTY, OREGON.
Original School District No. One ’is“ sh<5wn by line ------!■ ----—. There seems
to be no official date of organization hut this boundary appears on the records for the first time in March, 1855. There were 339 children of pchool age reported at that time. The changes in the boundary of School District N® One, after 1855 were numerous. In 1868 the district included almost as I much territory on the west side of the Willamete river as it does now. On account of the organization of other districts much of this territory was lost so that on January 1, 1883, the boundary
was as given on the map, which shows the district when its territorial extent was the least in its history. . Since that time the growth of the district has been steady and rapid. This map has been compiled with considerable difficulty from the old ' records in the County School Superintendent’s office, the records of School District No* One, the records left by districts annexed, and by interviews with old residents of those districts. The boundaries of districts annexed are shown as they were at time of annexation.
