Description
This map from a guidebook published in about 2002 shows the Japantown in NW Portland, around 1940. It shows Japanese businesses, including hotels, restaurants, laundries, health care facilities, and other establishments. Shortly after the date depicted in this map, Japanese and Japanese-American Portlanders were forcibly interred by the United States government for the duration of the Second World War.
