Caution tape in front of scaffolding at Central

Description

A photograph of caution tape inside Central Library in 1993. The focal point of the photograph is the word 'CAUTION.' Out of focus in the background is scaffolding, books on shelves, and a man seated in a chair with an open book in his hands. In the early 1990s, a structural analysis demonstrated a serious deficiency in the support partitions, requiring installation of scaffolding to protect patrons and staff from falling masonry. Supported by a $24.5-million bond issue, as well as funds contributed by private donors through The Library Foundation, a comprehensive renovation began in late 1994 and was completed in 1997.
